In recent years, the rapid economic development in the western regions in Inner Mongolia makes all kinds of commercial buildings emerge like a bamboo shooting after spring rain. But the memorial space, as the bearer of national regional history and culture of people and events, still maintains the old look. According to my observation, there are some larger commemorative rooms in central and western part of Inner Mongolia, such as Genghis Khan Mausoleum, Zhaojun Museum, and Ulanhu Memorial Hall. In addition to Zhaojun Museum's expansion in 2008, the rest of the memorial space were all built up or expanded in the eighties to nineties of last century. Since at that time in our country, particularly in this area, the basic design was at the initial stage, from space planning, color design, lighting atmosphere to exhibit booth, text description and system identification, etc, it is now unable to meet the visitors'needs of seeking for more functional and spiritual taste. In terms of geographical zones, Inner Mongolia as an independent culture area, it has rare precious wealth with diversity history and strong national characteristics which is significant for the inheritance and development. Take our national hero Genghis Khan for instance, he has been the national hero, spiritual leader, and spiritual worship figure in people's minds for generations. Anything about his character legend, the war legend and the life style of that age deserves to be understood and studied. However, the currently available memorial space about the Genghis Khan can no longer satisfy such requirements. Whether Mausoleum of Genghis Khan or Genghis Khan Temple or the Memorial Hall, are all lack of size and culture. The displaying mode still remains in the glass cases and there is no space-level exhibition hall. It is really a pity for people who are urgent to communicate and interact with history. In addition, today the design has been developed to such a rich diversity of age, while the display design of monumental space can't just stop at the law-abiding displays and exhibits along the wall a few words of explanation. The display can make visitors interact with history through certain ways, see the usage of particular items at one time, increase interest and participation of visitors, and make commemorative space to achieve a good education function and so on. All these are issues that a designer should be aware of and are issues of culture superior to technology design. I tried to explore in depth all aspects of the design for the memorial space design culture and design methods. I also try to break out the textbook-style, technology-centered approach, but hope to put forward questions, solve problems, and to influence the designer in theoretical and ideological way according to design attitude and overall height.
