By employing the methodologies in the field of Chinese historical documentation studies, this thesis is a systematically research on Biographies of the Celebrities in Jingkou during the Song Dynasty京å£è€†æ—§ä¼ (hereinafter referred to as Biographies) especially on the basis of various historical works, anthologies, notes and annals of local histories etc.The thesis mainly includes seven parts as followed:The Introduction explains the selected topic and its significance, reviews the current situation of study on Biographies, and summarizes the structure of this paper and the methodologies which have been utilized. In Chapterâ… ,the author initially sorts out the evidence researches on the writer and the date of writing on Biographies, which have been made by previous researchers. Secondly, the author analyzes that it is reasonable for the compilers of Si-ku quan-shu四库全书to arrange all biographees in the order of Dantu丹徒,Danyang丹阳and Jintan金å›when they recompiled Biographies, since such an order could reflect the original edition of Biographies. The author also tries to explain the incompleteness of the recompiled edition of Biographies in Si-ku quan-shu.In Chapterâ…¡,the origin and development of all editions of Biographies in history are clarified at first. Through the collation, the author finds out that Wenyuan-ge edition文渊é˜æœ¬is comparatively more accurate than Wenjin-ge edition文津é˜æœ¬,although both of them are viewed as Si-ku edition四库本.Besides, another edition of Biographies which was printed by He Mingqian贺鸣谦also provides some reference value as a few omissions and errors were corrected in it.In Chapterâ…¢,according to textual criticism on the biographies cited by Biographies, the author believes that the historical sources adopted by the writer LiuZai刘宰were rooted in the following aspects:the dynastic history, epitaphs, posthumous biographies as well as some prefaces and postscripts to anthologies, biographies included in genealogies etc.In Chapterâ…£, the author firstly probes into the origins and the social functions of local biography based on an in-depth examination of related historical works. Secondly, as one of local biographies, owning to its abundant and credible information, the rich documentary value of Biographies primarily embodies in two aspects—a supplementary for official history and a proof for other historical documents.Chapter V is a clarification of the citation from Biography by Jiading Zhenjiangzhi嘉定镇江志,Zhishun Zhenjiang zhi至顺镇江志and Song-shi yi宋å²ç¿¼At first, with regard to the former two books, the number of historical characters quoted by Zhishun Zhenjiang zhi is relatively great. In addition, for the reason that the compilers of Si-ku quan-shu zong-mu mistakenly estimated the Biographies was composed in the reign of emperor Duanping or Jiaxi which was later than the completion time of Jiading Zhenjiang Zhi, Liu Wenqi刘文淇and Zhang Jianå¼ é‰´believed that the biographies in Jiading Zhenjiang Zhi, which was originally cited from Biographies, was a quotation from Xianchun Zhenjiang zhi following the inaccurate estimation. As for the latter book, Lu Xinyuan陆心æºcited a great deal of materialsfrom Biographies in his composing which titles Song-shi yi. Nonetheless, the fact that some omissions and errors occurred during the process of quoting, combined with the deletion of poems and essays included in the original text, weakens the documentary value of Song-shi yi as a result.Chapter VI analyzes the errors in Biography resulted from inappropriately dealing with historical materials when Liu Zai composed this book.
