As one of the most controversial topic to be discussed among linguistic filed, CLT approach remains the focus on which various attitudes and views are put. Especially as to whether Non-English majors'English study should be based on CLT approach no consensus has been reached. The research aims to gain an insight into the effects of CLT approach applied in English class joined by Non-English majors. Despite insistence on loyalty to traditional approach, communication skills has become one of the most significant factors in evaluating students' proficiency in English and determining the efficiency of English teaching since communicative ability plays a key role more than ever before.70 sophomores from two classes of Liaoning Technical University participated in this research. And all of them were arranged respectively for traditional approach and CLT approach. To achieve the purpose of examining the difference between the traditional approach and the CLT approach, we make one teacher teach the control class using CLT approach, another teach the experimental class using traditional approach. Statistical procedures were used to analyze (1) whether the experimental class gained higher scores than the control class on oral communicative performance, (2) whether the experimental class presented higher motivation than the control class on oral communication after participating in CLT class. The results show that the students in CLT class achieved higher scores on the oral tests than those in the teacher-centered learning environment. By providing first-hand statistics and materials, this research serves as both theoretical and practical evidence on which other researchers could base their study on and avoid any unnecessary work.
