Modern Chinese Monosyllabic Modality adverbs are a group of special words, for visionary and elusive meanings. Modality Adverbs involve complex and diverse semantic background when used in a syntax environment. On the other hand, in Chinese they are frequently used in daily conversation.Most of current researches on Monosyllabic Modality adverbs are on a particular word, seldom on the common laws. And it is a blank field in Chinese as a foreign language teaching research. Monosyllabic Modality adverbs are always neglected in Chinese as a second language teaching, which is one of the reasons why the foreigners can not speak pure Chinese. This paper summarized three usage and rules of Monosyllabic Modality adverbs:function of magnitude commentary, function of indicating the background, and subjective magnitude of tone. Function of magnitude commentary is reflected in four words:JIU, CAI, HAI and DOU. They can make commentaries on the magnitude composition in a sentence. They can make appreciation commentary and impairment commentary. This paper summarized two kinds of commentary forms, and analyzed the rules of them.Function of indicating the background and subjective magnitude of tone are closely linked. They are two sides of a coin. This paper listed ten Monosyllabic Modality adverbs, like JIU, KE, CAI, BING, YOU and so on, and summarized their basic rules of indicating the background function:mainly reversed indicating. On the function of subjective magnitude of tone, this paper divided it into 7 categories in accordance with the order from fewer to more:'Compromise','Magnitude Commentary','Excuse','Fit','Accident','Refute', and'Wish'.This paper surveyed the situations of foreigners'acquiring Modern Chinese Monosyllabic Modality adverbs. Through data analysis and statistic,14 conclusions are summarized. According to these, this paper summarized four major acquisitions and their causes in respect of foreigners learning Monosyllabic Modality adverbs, and made a teaching strategy with six aspects, including the outline, teaching materials, teaching, teachers, examinations, and acquisition themselves. Finally, this paper designed an acquisition outline on Monosyllabic Modality adverbs to serve Teaching Chinese as A Second Language, which propose suggestions on the acquisition order of Monosyllabic Modality adverbs.
