Study On The Categorical Priming Effect Of Identity Semantic Information Retrieval Process

Faces give us ample emotionality information, what is important for our sociality communications .so researchers want to study it. Simultaneously, as an especial visual stimulus, faces have race effect and inversion effect. So it's evident for us to study face recognition. With the development of technology, especially in the Cognitive-Neurology fields, we get the progress. With the progress, there are tremendous controversies with theoretical research of face recognition. There are two main models, the first is sequence model. The second is parallel model. In recent years, more and more studies have proved the correctness of the IAC model. The model believes that the individual who possess same PIN yards can activate each other during the recognition. In other words, there have priming effect. According to the assumption, the researchers did a series of studies. The associative priming effect has been confirmed. But there are some controversies with the categorical priming effect, what has challenged the IAC model.This study analyzes the researches of predecessors. Finding that these studies did not separate the associative materials and categorical materials, or they hold little proportions. So the researchers did not get significant categorical priming effect. So we assume that because the strength of associative priming effect is big enough to suppress the categorical priming effect. The associative priming effect holds more PIN yards than the categorical priming effect, so we can get associative priming effect easily. We suppose that if we separate them, the categorical materials will not be suppressed, so we can get the categorical priming effect. At the same time, we believe that the categorical priming effect can be affected with the number of priming clue words, with the multiple priming Paradigm, we can get the significant categorical priming effect. To prove our hypothesis, in the first experiment, we use four different tasks, in others words, we use mixed and the associative materials in the first and the categorical materials in the first and only categorical materials. The result indicates that with the last two tasks, we can get significant categorical priming effect. But with fore two tasks, we did not. In the second experiment, we use the paradigm of predecessors, the priming words become three. The result indicates that in the all four tasks, we can get significant priming effect easily. In others words, the categorical effect is affected by the priming words. And the categorical priming effect is a weak form of associative priming effect. At the same time, the materials with nothing relation are not affected. The result indicates that the IAC model is right. Because the IAC model believes that In the face recognition process, only activate the PIN yards, we can get the identity semantic information. At the same time, the individual who have same yards will activate each other. The yards include associate and categorical relation. We have indicated that in the fore studies, associate priming effect can be got easily, what is consistent with this study. The study on categorical effect has confirmed our hypothesis, which is an proof for IAC model.In the fore studies, the categorical relation is mainly occupation, and the other relations are seldom, and the conclusion is seldom too. So in the third experiment, we use the nationality as categorical relation, but the result indicates that the categorical effect is not significant.Though our research, we resolve the controversy, and we offer new proof for IAC model. We confirm that the individual who have same yards will activate each other. The effect is significant, only because the strength of associate relation is too powerful. Moreover, the occupation relation is a common form, so when we use this relation we can get significant effect, but not others. So we can say, IAC model can explain face recognition exactly.
