On The English Translation Strategies Of The Musicality Of Reduplicated Words In Classical Chinese Poems

As shining treasure in Chinese traditional culture, more and more classical Chinese poems are translated into various foreign languages. The translation of classical Chinese poems plays an important role in the transmission of Chinese culture in the world. However, it is not easy to translate poems, because their beauties like beauty in sound, beauty in form, beauty in sense, and the like, can hardly be completely reproduced in the target texts.In order to maintain the beauty of the original, we will make use of the theories of translation aesthetics to support the result of our research. Translation aesthetics is a combination of translation and aesthetics. It plays a leading role in the study of poetry translation, because poetry itself is a process of enjoying and experiencing beauty. Only when the translator has the aesthetic consciousness can he recreate the beauty of the original in the target text. Similarly, poetry translation criticism also needs the theories of translation aesthetics to support itself. As a result, we will do our research on the theoretical basis of translation aesthetics.In translating classical Chinese poems, one of the most difficult problems is how to well translate the reduplicated words. Chinese reduplicated words are bestowed with the beauty in sound, beauty in form, and the beauty in sense. They are one of the traditional writing skills in classical Chinese poems. However, it is difficult to translate classical Chinese poems. It is even more difficult to translate the reduplicated words in classical Chinese poems. The previous studies of translating reduplicated words are mainly about how to recreate the words' beauty in form, and always neglect the beauty in sound. Thus, we are going to, from the perspective of translation aesthetics, look for the solutions to the problem - how to reproduce the musicality of the reduplicated words in the translation of classical Chinese poems. And finally, some practical translation strategies will be proposed and their feasibility will be analysed from the perspective of translation aesthetics.
