With China’s opening up to the whole world, the studies of Chinese languagehave caused an international boom. This background notes the importance of thetransmission of Chinese culture. As a result, it is of great value to explorecross-cultural communication, and specifically to research on how to transmit Chineseculture in an effective way.Translation is a cross-language, cross-cultural activity. Successful translation cansuccessfully bridge cultural differences and transmit cultural connotation, whichmakes the source language understood, accepted and appreciated. As a characteristicclass of Chinese language, reduplicated words manifest a typical difference betweenChinese and English languages. Consequently, researching on Chinese duplicatedwords and how the translation of Chinese duplicated words transmit the culturalconnotation, can lead to an inspiration of cross-cultural transmission studies.The thesis probes into the translation of Chinese duplicated words in Tang andSong Ci poems, raising the point of cultural blanks, cultural overlaps and culturalconflicts, and studies the language cultural transmission in successful translations.
