The gradual advancements in digital imaging technologies gave the once popular stereoscopic imagery a new return to the spotlight. The rapid technical innovations made possible effects that once were unachievable.2009 was known as "the New Stereoscopic Year Zero" when an abundance of stereo-imaging products became available to the mass market. Though the principles of Stereoscopic imaging had been acknowledged since the dawn of photography, the technologies of the twenty-first century provided new grounds for its application. Academic writings relating the subject have taken place internationally yet systematic Chinese studies in this area remain scarce. This article provides an extensive study of the revived Stereoscopic Image utilizing digital technologies, articulating the distinctions in is form and context by citing the stereoscope movements of the 19th and 20th Century. Through the systematic studies of the historical development, visual properties and aesthetic qualities of digital based stereoscopic imagery are analyzed to establish an initial view of the medium as a valid means of new artistic expression.
