Madness is the classical motif in the history of Chinese and foreign literature. Since China starts to transform from traditional society to the modern one, the Chinese literature of the new period changes unceasingly in accordance with the reforming of Chinese politics, economy and cultural transformation. Madness came into existence in all kinds of genre just because it conforms to this cultural imagination in the period of social transformation. Dementia narrative emerges massively in the Chinese literature of the new period, and presents different trends with the development of times.This article takes the dementia narrative in the novels of the new Period as the object of study. Based on the concrete text, it inspects the dementia narrative's type, connotation, inner transformation and aesthetic value with the employment of the narrative theory of science. The goal is to search the culture spirit and tendency in this period by analyzing its characteristic and the significance. This article includes the following parts. The part of introduction combs through the motif of madness in the history of Chinese and foreign literature and defines the concept of the dementia narrative in the novels of the new period. The part 1 introduces two types of the dementia narrative in the novels of the new period-one takes the madness as the narrative object while the other one takes it as the narrative perspective-and cites the example separately. The part 2 analyzes the connotation of the dementia narrative in the novels of the new period from the dimensions of rationality, culture, humanity and history based on the concrete text. The part 3 describes the transformation of the dementia narrative in the novels of the new period by inner comparing. The part 4 takes a whole inspection of the dementia narrative in the novels of the new period from the aesthetic angle and concludes its aesthetic characteristics, style and value. The last part carries on the whole summary of this article from the generalization of the research background and value.We take it as significant to explore the modern dementia narrative from micro as well as macro perspective, which benefits the elaboration about the cultural spirits and trend at that time.
