| Context is defined to be the linguistic environment, that is, where the language is uttered. It was the Polish anthropologist B. Malinowski who firstly proposed the concept of"context"in 1923. He pointed out that context was the only factor to determine the semantic meaning and classified context into cultural context and situational context. Since then, numerous linguists, philosophers, and even psychologists have made researches into it. With the development of linguistics study, the study relevant to context has become increasingly important and prominent and almost all schools of linguistics have begun to involve in the study of context in its linguistic branches. Nowadays, context has become very significant in pragmatics. With the development of pragmatics, many linguists have already realized the importance of context and intensively discussed the features and functions of context. However, up to now, the connection between context functions and translation has not been widely applied. Under the situation of the globalization and increasingly deeper communications among the countries in the world, the translation can not be only regarded as a transformation of languages in linguistic symbol or merely of information in communication. It should be related to how to use language in communication. Context has a close tie with comprehension of meaning and language use, so to discuss how the context may impact on the E-C translation, is very significant. As the study of context is not perfect at present, many contextual factors have not been definitely defined yet. As a result, it is urgent to build a separate theoretical system of context.On the basis of the study of context at home and abroad, the author induces the information relevant to the context by using the systematic method. In the first place, the author summarizes five features of context and its two main functions, that is, eliminating function and interpretative function. In the second place, the author classifies the context into linguistic context, (including the lexical context, the syntactic context and the textual context); situational context (including the field of discourse, the mode of discourse and the tenor of discourse) and cultural context (the geographic environment, the social customs and habits, the religion, and the history.) In addition, the author fuses these various kinds of context into this study and systematically analyses how these contextual factors impact on E-C translation by using large amount of examples. These contextual factors together restrict the communication of people and the meaning of the utterance is also achieved through these contextual factors. Eventually the author tentatively summarizes the different translating strategies used in different contexts. Under linguistic context, there are mainly two strategies. One is defining the meaning of the words based on the preceding and following context and changing. The other is changing the thinking and adjusting the voice. Under situational context the mainly used strategy is supplementing the background knowledge. And under cultural context, there are also mainly two strategies. One is using the associative meaning of the words. The other is flexibly using the rhetoric method.During the process of E-C translation, because some translators can not completely realize the importance of the contextual factors, and neglect the contextual analysis, and consequently some misinterpretations and misunderstanding are produced. Considering this, the purpose of this paper is to let more and more translators have a good knowledge of the context and its related importance and effectively apply the contextual analysis during the process of translation so as to accurately understanding the meaning of source language and completely expressing the translated version. Only in this way can the translators choose the most appropriate version to fulfill the aim of E-C translation, which is the reappearance of meaning and style of the original.
