The historical study of vocabulary plays an important role in the study of Chinese vocabulary, but this aspect of work is comparatively lagging behind due to the restriction of objective conditions and conventional recognition. In late 20th century and early 21st century, many scholars and experts began to attach importance to the history of vocabulary evolution and they devoted themselves to the study of historical research and theory building. Their efforts brought brilliant research accomplishments.This thesis applies methods of tracing the source of words, using examples, detailed describing, frequency statistic citing and words combination relation examining to study the evolution of eight groups of common words from Pre-Qin to Sui dynasty, hoping to explain the processing of words'replacing, and to discuss the laws of common words'evolution.There is a conclution in the end of each group of words to sum up the discussion.The thesis analyzes materials selected as examples and gives brief account of books and documents cited.
