The wives of the recruited men in Tang Dynasty are a special group which exerted great influence to the society of Tang Dynasty. The records about the wives of the recruited in Tang Dynasty are presented commonly in Tang Poem. By inquiring the Tang Poem concerning the wives of the recruited, the author intended to explore the social situation in which the wives of the recruited lived, and their living conditions, emotional life and physical and mental conditions.This thesis makes a clear definition of the word"wives of the recruited", a brief analysis of its origin and its social background. The findings indicate that the military system and a succession of wars in Tang Dynasty are the root of the formation of this group, and their livelihood deserves a special attention. The author makes a profound exploration of descriptions of wives of the recruited in Tang Poem, aiming to present a vivid and clear image of them.This thesis is consisted of five parts: The first part is an analysis is on social background of the emergence of this group, of the concerning the frequent wars in Tang Dynasty. The second part focuses on their family life. In general, they have three financial resources, namely farming income, sideline income and pensions from the government. All the same, taxes and expenditure of the endless battle put heavy burdens on them. And not all of them could stay at home, some needed to go to battergrounds with their husbands. The third part is about their marriage. Although their husbands went out to battles, they were loyal to them. The fourth part is about their physical and mental conditions. Long term departure with their husbands is bound to effect their physical and mental conditions, which appears as negative emotions and optimism. The fifth part is about their education. Compared with women in the former dynasty, wives of the recruited men in Tang Dynasty are higher, and their literary quality is reflected by poem creations.
