Studies On The Distribution Pattern Of Modern Chinese Passive Construction In Narrative Style

Distribution law of passive construction of Modern Chinese in narrative style was studied in this paper. In this paper, passive sentences include marked passive construction and notional passive construction; narrative structure of narrative style is composed of foreground and background. Based on the analysis of the transitivity and the ability of loading new information of the foreground and background of the two kinds of passive construction, the preliminary hypothesis of distribution patterns of passive construction in narrative style was raised. Through the practical statistic of discourses, it is found that contemporary Chinese and English folk stories are complied with this law. First, in foreground, the number of marked passive construction is higher than that of notional passive sentence. Second, in background, the number of notional passive construction is higher than that of marked passive sentence. Third, in term of passive construction, marked passive construction are more in foreground than in background. Forth, notional passive construction are more in background than in foreground. But the law of realism realistic novels is different from that because complicated narrating strategy of realism realistic novels makes this law to be obscure. Therefor, this phenomenon can not be used to deny that the above conclusions are the unmarked distribution patterns of passive construction.The full-text is divided into 5 chapters.Chapter 1 "Introduction". Firstly the research purpose was stated:Distribution law of passive construction of Modern Chinese in narrative style was studied in this paper. Then, the shortages of existed researches were analyzed and summarized based on reviewing the researches related to passive construction and the research thinking and plan were raised.Chapter 2 "Research objects and their characteristics". Distribution law of passive construction in narrative style was studied in this paper. Modern Chinese passive construction include marked passive construction and notional passive construction in this paper. The transitivity and the ability of loading new information of marked passive construction are better than notional passive construction. Generally, narrative style is consisted of foreground and background. Foreground is dynamic so short sentences with high transitivity are usually used to transfer more information. Background has low dynamics so short sentences with low transitivity are used and the ability of transferring information is worse.Chapter 3 "Distribution law of passive construction of contemporary Chinese in narrative style". In this paper, hypothesis of distribution law of Modern Chinese passive construction in narrative style was raised based on the corresponding characteristics of passive construction and foreground and background of narrative style. Then the status of distribution of passive construction in practical Chinese discourses was studied. The statistical result of folk stories was complied with the hypothesis. Novels have complicated narrative strategy which makes the increasing of background so the statistical data had a deviation. Ignoring these effect factors, the statistical result of novels also complied with the hypothesis.Chapter 4 "Cross-Language Comparison".English was chosen to do the cross-language comparison research for the further prove the correctness of the hypothesis and further prove of the distribution law we got. And the correctness of distribution law of contemporary Chinese passive construction in narrative style was verified.Chapter 5 "Concluding Remarks". Summarize the conclusions of the paper.
