A Study Of The Narrative Characteristics Of The Text Of The Dai Heroic Epic "Usa Baro"

"Usa Baro" is a traditional Dai heroic epic,ranking first among the Dai people’s "five narrative long poems",historically "Usa Baro" has been preserved in the text form of the Bayeux Sutra,and has been passed down in the Dai region of Yunnan.The study of Usa Baro has far-reaching significance in the fields of literature,religion,ethnology,and linguistics.This study selected two editions of Usa Baro as research objects,one is the sutra text of Usa and Baro（2011）,volume 95 of the Complete Works of Bayeux,and the other is Zhang Haben of Usa Baro（edited by Iwaka,2012）published by Haitian Publishing House.This study attempts to use the relevant theories of narratology to analyze the text of "Usa Baro" from the three aspects of narrative form,narrative structure and narrative formula,to find the characteristics of "Usa Baro" in narrative,and to trace and describe the characteristics of the epic narrative tradition of Dai heroes through the more representative model of "Usa Baro".The first chapter is an overview of the epic.Combining the two versions of the sutra text and the chapter Haben,the text overview,text expression,text content and its complementarity are introduced.The second chapter is characterized by the narrative form of Usa Baro.The analysis of the most prominent and intuitive "morphological" characteristics of "Usa Baro" draws the following conclusions: the form of stylistic mixture;the form of the early literati’s initial written creation;and the image form close to that of "endowment".The third chapter features the narrative structure of Usa Baro.Discuss the structure at the story level in depth on the basis of intuitive morphology.Using the structuralist narrative theory of classical narratology,the character functions are analyzed layer by layer from the surface structure to the deep structure and the action metastructure diagram is constructed.The analysis results are summarized: the surface layer is a frame and two-line composite structure,the deep layer is the core function of the narrative of "lack-confrontation-victory",and the narrative logic of causal reincarnation.The fourth chapter is characterized by the narrative program of Usa Baro.Based on the three theoretical frameworks of the "Parry-Lorde" theory of "words and syntactic formulas,themes or typical scenes,story paradigms",the analysis is carried out to restore the tradition of oral literary narrative programming characteristics.The fifth chapter is the reasons for the formation of the narrative characteristics of "Usa Baro" and summarizes: the tradition of written and oral parallels of Dai literature,the results of the localization of foreign cultures,and the common narrative thinking of the Chinese nation.
