Self-differentiation which was introduced by Murry Bowen is the capacity that the individual can distinguish his intellectual and feeling, and is a behavior reactive tendency which is formed in the original family and gradually became stable. It can predict the individual behavior in many situations. Individuals with high self-differentiation have high self-function, good autonomy, a moderate ability to reconcile the emotional and rational and get a balance between individualization and intimacy with his family; Individuals with low self-differentiation have low self-function, lack of autonomy, confused emotional and intellectual function easily with others. They have too many inappropriate emotional involvements with others, and they will experience high anxiety in the face of life stress. The purpose of this study are as following: On the basis of amending the self-differentiation scale for the samples of Chinese college students, the author examined the characteristics of self-differentiation of Chinese college students, and researched the relationship between self-differentiation and the family function, social anxiety in college students.Through the statistical analysis of the data, this study gets the following conclusions:1. The amended self-differentiation scale for the sample of Chinese college students has good reliability and validity. The indicators of reliability and validity of this scale are in line with the requirements of psychometrics.2. Generally speaking, the self-differentiation level of college students is fairly high, but there are still 25.8% of the students whose self-differentiation level is lower. Concretely speaking, the average level of Emotional Cutoff is the highest, the second is I- Position, and the level of emotional reactivity is the lowest.3. As for demographic variables, there are significant gender differences in the self-differentiation of college students. The emotional response, I-position, the integration with others and the total scores of male college students were significantly higher than female students. In the professional variables, the emotional response, emotional cutoff, the integration with others and the total scores of liberal college students were significantly higher than the science students. The students who used to be class cadre of university have higher scores in self-position scores than the students who didn't have this experience.4. College students with different levels of self-differentiation have a significant difference between family functioning and social anxiety. The college students who belongs to high self-differentiation group get a higher scores the family cohesion and adaptability than the students of low self-differentiation group; The social anxiety of college students who belongs to high self-differentiation group is lower than university of students low self-differentiation group, which indicates that the students with a high level of self-differentiation have a higher family cohesion, adaptability, and lower levels of social anxiety.5. College students'self-differentiation level and family function have good predictive effects on social anxiety. Meantime, I-position in self-differentiation plays a moderating role between family function and social anxiety.
