Chinese civilization has developed for thousands of years, decorative pattern as a part of art in Chinese civilization, it has gradually formed it self's characteristic in the process of such a history development. The creation of one traditional decorative pattern must been in a certain environment. What kinds of circumstance did Chu bronze of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty experienced is what we need to discover in nowadays. The decorative pattern of Chu bronze is so bloom and delicacy that it like the lifeblood of the bronze. And the dragon decorative patterns take a large part in all the decorative patterns. In this thesis I will study the reasons for the creation of the dragon pattern on Chu bronze and the influence of the pattern.In this thesis, many kinds of patterns was collected and classified by subjects, the content and style of the pattern was generalized. The manifestation and art characteristic of pattern was studied. Company the circumstance with the beauty of animation\mysterious\harmony of the dragon pattern, we can study the profound reason for the achievement of the dragon pattern. Then analysis the taste of Chu people\techniques of bronze\conjuring of Chu\materialism and how can they affect the pattern.The main point of this thesis can be concluded several following mainly conclusions.(1) The Chu bronze in Eastern Zhou Dynasty was affected by the central plains characteristic, romantism, region aborigines culture, history cause such as religious belief, times particularity. The Chu people figure dragon as the numen. The dragon can protect them from the disaster. The dragon decorative pattern included not only rich in variety, but also reflects the large number of historical and cultural information. The decoration is not only can show the dragon is the favorite pattern in chu bronze, but also can show that the technology of making bronze is so development.(2) The content and form of the dragon pattern was presentation by illustration, summed up, analysis, and then we can abstract several characteristic in aesthetics of dragon patterns. First, dragon pattern is represented in varied forms, and every dragon is very vigorous. That tells us the pursuit of life among the Chu people. Second, every bronze is decorated fully by dragon patterns. Third, the dragon pattern is affected by the Sorcery in Chu.(3) After all the analysis above, we can now draw a conclusion that the value of dragon pattern is not only in society, the aesthetic; it also can be use in nowadays design. We need to know the profound meaning of the dragon pattern, then we can use it better in design.
