The Vocabulary Research Of Juyanxinjian

Between 1972 and 1974,19 637bamboo&woolen slips were excavated in the Han Dynasty Ruins of Ejina valley (called Juyan in ancient times) north of Gansu province by our archaeology team. These were called juyanxinjian and made the discovery an unprecedented one with the most wooden tablets unearthed. Juyanxinjian involves all the tablets of the Ruins "Jiaqu houguan" and "the forth Sui of houguan" and the ones of somewhere else, the number of which totals up to 8409. Because Xinjian provides real material and abundant content and was written in high-oral languish, it has a high value in the study on the history of the Chinese language.The dissertation centers on the words and phrases in the Xinjian and is divided into two categories to study systematically. Category 1 consists of four chapters. Chapter 1 is introduction and simply presents the selected topic and the main conditions of the Juyanxinjian. Chapter 2 contains two parts which present the high-oral characteristic of the words and phrases firstly and the study value in the influence to the dictionary's compiling secondly. Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 take a monographic study on the two-tone word. In the third chapter the two-tone word is divided into the name-and-description word and the common word and in the fourth chapter it mainly presents the two-tone word's word-building.Category 2 mainly makes textual criticisms and explanations on 17 words. Some are not smooth in writing and obscure in meaning while some are common in writing and different in meaning. The last of this part also has 6 emendations which are used to correct the words wrongly copied.By studying the words and phrases in the Juyanxinjian, we find that it has a close relation with other document materials written in high-oral languish, such as novels, letters and the Buddhist Scriptures translated in Chinese in the middle ancient times.
