The rise of China is slowly changing standards of production in Hollywood, especially in terms of content formulation and narrative design. Through a series of interviews with senior executives and advisors in Hollywood this research provides an understanding of the dilemmas, attitudes and beliefs Hollywood studios hold towards the Chinese market. While Hollywood does not currently see China as a major target market for blockbuster success, the notion that China's consumerist market is growing hand in hand with its political influence, is demonstrated with the production of sycophant scripts that are intended to appeal to the Chinese authorities. Furthermore, the new global political economy of cultural production prevents Hollywood studios from challenging or offending what is expected to become in the 21st century, the largest ever market for entertainment. Hence this research recognizes the beginning of a shift from the traditional 'Hollywood Standard'for content production to a new'China Standard', designed to fit the new world order.
