"Popularization" and "Higher standard" is a pair of concepts that can be seen as a key to the discussion of Zhao Shuli's works. The essay aims to structure the whole Zhao Shuli's disquisition histioy and analyze Zhao Shuli's works with the dialectics between "Popularization" and "Higher Standards" as a basic structure.The essay holds that a valid judgment and analysis of Zhao Shuli's works should start from reality and not from definitions, that's to say it will be a mistake if we determine the meanings of Zhao Shuli's literature by fixed concept of literary hierarchy. Repeatedly emphasized by Zhao Shuli, the theory and practice of catering to the needs of peasants is by no means merely cooperation with politics, but signifies a brand new cognition of literature.The essay holds that we shouldn't focus only on the civilian facet of Zhao Shuli and his literature, while ignore the political aspect. Oppositely what can be seen clearly is that Zhao Shuli always stick to the need of educating peasant and as a result we should take the political facet of Zhao Shuli's works into consideration. However, we must renew our understanding as to the political facet of Zhao Shuli's works, which means that we should consider it closely that how Zhao Shuli perform the political theme of a novel in the way of literature.Zhao Shuli's novels are remembered by their unique style, of which grand finale is an example. The essays holds that such unique style signifies a communication between civilian opera and novel, and the reason why Zhao Shuli choose such style is his respect for the interest of peasant. Imagination of a proper order of country life, which is revealed in the concept "Ethical Law", can be also seen. The last part of this essay firstly give a description of what the concept "Ethical Law" mean through analyzing several novels, and then discuss this question fatherly through a study of images of different leaders appearing in Zhao Shuli's novels and other articles.
