Design And Realization Of Joomla! Based E-Learning System

Computer-assisted language learning has gained rapid development in China since 1980s. Researches on its feasibility in language teaching, its application in classroom lectures, and its employment in language skill training have been carried out, but mostly in colleges, with the ones conducted in elementary and junior high schools very few. Based on this situation, the author of the present paper proposes to apply E-Learning system, a learning system formulated according to Joomla! framework, to the learning and teaching of basic English (English taught in elementary and junior high schools). This learning system provides, through analysis, design and realization of the needs of both the teachers and students, an on-line learning environment for them to promote their efficiency and sense of satisfaction in teaching and learning. Starting with the methodology, which is justified from the perspectives of physics and foreign language teaching, the author goes on to elaborate the feasibility of applying E-Learning system to teaching and learning of basic English from the empirical point of view. With the information on the teaching needs of teachers and learning needs of students collected from questionnaires and interviews, the author designs this model of E-Learning system, which is technically realized with the help of the Joomla! framework. As to its operationalizaiton, the author explores the application and technical methods of Joomla! framework in the extension and exploration of Web system, and describes the realization of E-Learning system through analyzing its language proficiency testing function.In a word, this paper is an attempt to provide, through the application of E-Learning system, a good language learning environment for students in elementary and junior high schools, and at the same time promote their effectiveness in learning English.
