Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the composer and conductor of Russian, is one of the most important representatives of Russian National Music School in the trend of the Romantic music in 19th century, and is the first full-fledged professional composer of Russian in Second half of the 19th century, who has significantly international influence. Tchaikovsky's music composition basically involves in all the musical genres, whose most outstanding contribution is in these aspects of Symphony, opera and dance music. In comparison, although his piano works have not so prominent position in his composition, there are still no shortage of classic."Album for the Young", which was completed in 1878, is a model of Tchaikovsky's Piano Lyric Pieces, is also an important component of the best children's piano music in the world. When Tchaikovsky was in the composition of "Album for the Young", he was in the heyday of his creativity. It was not difficult to imagine that under the concise and simple melody which is suitable for children, the mature and personalized composing style of Tchaikovsky implies exactly.The harmony language of Tchaikovsky is composed in the foundation of inheritance for the classical tonal harmonic function system, absorbing the feature of romantic harmony which emphasizes on the performance of color, and mixing Russia and other European Nation's modal harmony. Under the context of harmony which has rigorous logic, is flashing out Tchaikovsky's unique harmony language. This thesis takes the harmony technique of "Album for the Young"as the main body of research, and according to the analysis and induction for these aspects including chord material, harmony progression, mode and tonality of the work, the part of inheritance in Tchaikovsky's harmony language is highlighted.This thesis is divided into three parts mainly:Chapterâ… : Tchaikovsky and the overview of his piano works. Firstly, introduce the historical status, life and time division of works of Tchaikovsky, and give a brief introduction to his style of music composition. Secondly, the major piano works composed by Tchaikovsky are briefly introduced and summarized through the form of charts. Chapterâ…¡: The composition summary of Tchaikovsky's "Album for the Young". This chapter is discussed from three main aspects: the creative background of "Album for the Young", the music content of "Album for the Young" and the structure of "Album for the Young". This chapter analyzes the specific creative background and the relevant inner activity when composer composed "Album for the Young", summarizes the colorful music image and different music contexts, and introduces the multiple structure used in pieces from macro issues.Chapterâ…¢: The harmony technique of Tchaikovsky's "Album for the Young", which is the main body of this thesis. This chapter reflects the inheritance of Tchaikovsky's harmony language from these aspects including chord material, harmony progression, mode and tonality of the work. Among "Album for the Young", the role of framework of harmony function is the base of the work, the norms and rules of classical harmony is still the fundamental basis in Tchaikovsky's music composition, and the free play and unlimited reverie of the color of harmony is stressed in the background of function. It is the most significant feature of harmony language in Tchaikovsky's"Album for the Young"that insist on the basic principle that the function of harmony is unified with the color of harmony, and highlights the color of harmony in the highest degree.The conclusion of this thesis further summarizes the characteristic of harmony technique of "Album for the Young" on the basis of classified study above. The author would like to offer his humble opinions to elicit more valuable ones, and to evoke more research on the technique of Tchaikovsky's music composition.
