This study aims to establish a building evaluation method for the buildings located in the Jiang-Huai region that were completed in the Republic Period of China (AD 1911 to 1949). This is achieved through a number of research activities. Firstly, a survey is conducted in five cities, namely Anking, Wuhu, Fefei, Bengbu and Huainan. Through the survey, the information of the targeted buildings is collected and analyzed. The building surveyed are those that are in reasonable condition, of certain historical value, and being somewhat ignored. Secondly, based on the survey outcome, the local natural environment and history and culture, the architectural form, structure and details of these buildings are studied to understand their characteristics, providing essential information based on which best preservation strategies can be developed in the future.
