Marx established the theory of historical materialism, not only provides a new perspective to understand the history, but also provides a guideline to understand the history of philosophy. He stood in the position of the materialist conception of history, starting from the civil society, to analyze the nature and historical development of philosophy. He thought that, the whole ideology including philosophy is finally decided by the social condition of material production, that is the social productive forces in a certain historical period and the production relations among people which basis on it. History of philosophy itself is not independent, the source of formation and evolution of philosophy is the development of actual history development which based on the material production. The past philosophy, which as a ruling ideology with class nature and falsity, should be fully exposed the nature of ideology and to explore the future direction of the development of philosophy. Marx propose that the future philosophy must get rid of the empty speculation and fully contact with the real world to get a real understanding of history and society, becoming the general theory for the science of history to provide direction for people's practical activities. This idea has become a revolution of philosophical thinking in the history, which opens a new situation that philosophy combines with history and social development. This article is divided into four parts to discuss the basic problem of Marx about the history of philosophy. In the first part I summed up the basic principles and methods of Marx about history of philosophy.
