Purpose: The aim of this research is to explain the relationship of the severity of trauma, post-traumatic psychological syndrome and social function of the people who live in the 5.12 earthquake district. Methods: This research used some questionnaires to investigate the 564 clients came from Hangwang of Mianzhu (Deyang) and Beichuan (Mianyang) about their severity of trauma, post-traumatic psychological syndrome(the appearance,the severity and the effect of therapy) and social function, analyzing the data though Test of Significance, Analysis of Variance, Correlation Analysis, Multivariate Regression Analysis, Test of Mediating Effects, Test of Moderating Effects, Path Analysis. Moreover, This research established a relation-model of the variables based on the theoretical hypothesis. Results:(1)different levels of the severity of trauma show significant difference on social ability;(2)the severity of trauma, psychological syndrome(the appearance, the severity and the effect of therapy) and social function have close relation with each other;(3)psychological syndrome(the appearance, the severity) are main predictors of social function (pre-measure); (4)the severity of trauma, psychological syndrome (the appearance, the severity and the effect of therapy) are strong predictors of social function (post-measure);(5)psychological syndrome (the severity) plays a mediating effect on the relationship between the severity of trauma and social function (pre-measure); (6)the severity of trauma doesn't show a significant moderating effect on the relationship between psychological syndrome(the effect of therapy) and social function(post-measure); (7)In the path model, the general symptoms of psychological syndrome(the appearance) hasn't been involved. Conclusion:(1)the severity of trauma doesn't directly influent the social function of the people in the affect area, but it plays a negative influence on social function through psychological syndrome;(2)post-traumatic psychological support has a positive influence on the recovery of social function.
