Perfectionism as a relatively stable personality trait, is divided into healthy perfectionism and dysfunctional perfectionism. Unhealthy perfectionism will lead to a variety of mental illnesses, such as anxiety, depression, etc. Ellis thinks that the irrational beliefs is absolute requirements and distorted view to himself, to others, to their surrounding environment and things. Irrational beliefs will lead to unhealthy feelings of anxiety, depression, rage, and self-pity.Perfectionism is an irrational,self-defeating belief. This study is to explore the relationship amog perfectionism, irrational belief and depression.Participents are 574 high-middle school students. They completed the revised vision of Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS-F),Irrational Belief Scale of Middle-School Student(IBS-M) and the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI).Main conclusions of the research are got as below:(1)The tolal score of IBS-M is significantly positive correlated with tolal score of MPS-F. Meanwhile, we find that the factors of IBS-M can predict dimensions of MPS-F to some extent. The tolal score of BDI can have positive effects on the dimensions of MPS-F representing normal perfectionistic behaviors as well as having negative effects on the dimensions of MPS-F representing dysfunctional perfectionistic behaviors. Four dimensions of IBS-M are significantly positive correlated with concern over mistakes and parental requirement, personal standard of MPS-F. Organization of MPS-F is negative correlated with thinking and perception of IBS-M.(2) The tolal score of IBS-M is significantly positive correlated with tolal score of BDI.We find that the factors of IBS-M can predict BDI to some extent. The tolal score of BDI can have negative effects on the dimensions of MPS-F representing normal perfectionistic behaviors as well as having no effects on the dimensions of MPS-F representing dysfunctional perfectionistic behaviors. The tolal score of BDI is positive correlated with neurotic perfectionism dimensions such as concern over mistakes and parental requirement.(3) The tolal score of BDI is positive correlated with the total score and four dimensions of IBS-M. Correlation coefficient between perception of IBS-M and BDI is maximum while Correlation coefficient between desiring of IBS-M and BDI is minimum.(4) Irrational beliefs mediates the relationship between perfectionism and depression. Irrational beliefs only partially mediates the association between dysfunctional perfectionism and depression, it isn't in the relationship between normal perfectionism and depression.
