Study On The Mythology Of Ba

As a sparking chapter of the cultural history, myth has been valued by scholars. The Chinese mythologies were saved in Chinese ancient books, but they were fragmented and bulky. After a lot of effort, parts of them have been ordered. Mao Dun divided the Chinese mythology into three parts—south, north and central plains. This is the first precedent for regional studies of mythology. Then some regional studies like Chu mythology are hot, but there is little study of Ba mythology.Ba is a complex concept; it includes Ba people, Ba country, Ba race, the region and the culture of Ba. The region of Ba is bigger than ancient Ba country; it included Chongqing and its peripheral area. No matter Ba area or Ba country, Chongqing was core. This thesis studies Ba mythology, and uses Chongqing be a center.Classification of myth is various, like open up myth, nature myth and so on. This thesis avoids the conventional classification of the myth, it studies mythical figures, and they are Linjun, Wushan goddess, Yu, Lady Tushang and Ba manzi.There are some conclusions:1. Ba has many meanings, like snake, grass, river, and stone and so on. Every statement has its own reason to set up.2. Linjun is a hero but not an ancestor. Linjun myth involves witchcraft.3. King of Xiang-Wang but not Songyu dreamed of Wushan goddess. Wushan goddess's archetype is the daughter of Chinese God. That Wushan goddess had sex with King of Xiang-Wang because of reverse psychology projection and the reflection of true reality.4. Yu. Yu was born in Beichuan. Yu is a historical myth. The flood area Yu control was broad, it include not only Huang River but also Chang River. Yu visited Chongqing.5. Lady Tushang. Tushan is in Chongqing. It is not the same Tushan where Yu married and Yu called a meeting of all the chieftains. Rock worship.6. Ba Manzi. Rise to God form the people.The mythologies which are mentioned above constitute the system of Ba mythology. This thesis is helpful to change the fragmented situation of Ba mythology.
