Influence Of Performance English Variety On Intercultural Communication

English, as an international language, has now become a multicultural and multifunctional language in the 21st century. With the development of globalization and extremely serious economy crisis in the present day, it is urgent for human beings to make more extensive intercultural communication to overcome such a crisis and promote the development of the world together. English, the commonly used language in the world, definitely, will be one of the most important languages which may help people finish the work of"Babel". English will be the very language for human beings to do intercultural communication. However, there are some features of English as a language. There will be some kind of culture collision and amalgamation when English enters into other countries in that it is the carrier of English culture. Therefore, there may be misunderstanding among people when they are dealing with intercultural communication due to the different cultural backgrounds. And then, English is bound to be"nativized"(Kachru, 1982) and forms various varieties, within which performance variety rates highly. So, it is very important to enable people to distinguish the differences of all the English varieties and sense their contribution to English and the possible obstacles caused by performance varieties.China English, representative of performance variety, which is classified to the expanding circle, is the English with Chinese cultural characteristics. It is necessary to know that China English is quite different from Chinese English which is a deformed English phenomenon misused by Chinese people. This paper takes China English as the representative, in order to find general features of English performance variety and its influence on intercultural communication.The present paper consists of seven parts:Introduction depicts the general background where the study sets, the reasons to conduct the study and the overview of the entire thesis.Chapter one summarizes the literature review related to the present study. A brief introduction to the status quo of English, birth of its varieties, main types and their development are given.Chapter two discusses the intimate relationship among language, culture and intercultural communication.Chapter three begins with the description of the categories of China English and its difference from Chinese English.Chapter four illuminates the importance of China English and its influence on intercultural communication. In this chapter, China English serves as the representative of English performance varieties and its general features and influences may be discovered in most of the performance varieties.Chapter five put up with the strategies to deal with problems which possibly caused by performance varieties in intercultural communication, especially in the fields of English teaching and translation.Conclusion summarizes the function of English language as a world language, the existence of performance English variety and its possible influence on intercultural communication and the strategies to solve problems caused by performance English variety.
