Translation teaching for English majors is teaching and practicing activities which aim to develop the students'translation competence. With the accelerated pace of globalization, and increasingly frequent international exchanges, a large quantity of qualified translation talents are in badly need. At present, most of universities have set up translation courses for English majors, however, many graduates are still unable to complete the actual work involved in the translation task after graduation. There is less who can engage in translation or interpretation. The main reason for this phenomenon is that translation teaching at present could not satisfy the society's needs in some aspects.In general, as an essential part of translators cultivating process, translation teaching for Undergraduate English majors still has many problems: Confusion of discrimination exist between teaching translation and translation teaching in teaching conception; Students'dominant status was ignored, learning effect and enthusiasm was restricted; The content of teaching is outdated, the teaching facilities and means are disadvantaged;Curriculum setting is unreasonable; cultivation model is not scientific and unable to meet market's needs. The teachers'teaching competence need to be promoted, the teachers'makeup structure needs to be improved; Interdisciplinary translation teachers are in severe demand. All these seriously restricted the realization of the teaching goals of translation teaching in practice.The key factor leading to the problems in Translation Teaching for Undergraduate English majors is that the positioning of translation teaching is not scientific. To carry out reform and re-design of translation teaching, it is necessary to make a scientific positioning of translation teaching. The demand for English translators is increasing and the English translators, in a long-term, will be supplied mainly by undergraduate English major in colleges and universities which will not be changed in short term. Based on the basic judges, we should put forward such new positioning for translation teaching as the second degree education, professional education with characteristics in cultivating all-round talents, technical education whose cultivating Objects are the talented students having interest and hobbies.The rise of higher vocational and technical was accompanied by the arising social demand of practical technological talents. In current vocational and technical education, the cultivating model can offer us many good experience as follows: closely combining with market demand in major setting; adopting"Order Form"and"Project Driven"talent cultivating model; increasing substantial proportion of practice teaching in curriculum content; applying competence-centered evaluation criteria on translation teaching .Based on the analysis of the practical situation and social demand for talents, reform on translation teaching should be conducted as follows: First, reform the curriculum, increase practice course in active response to market demand, reform syllabus and textbooks; Second, reform the teaching model and evaluation criteria, construct a new market-oriented teaching evaluation system; Third, promote the quality and competence of the teaching staff. Those who only have English language background are not qualified enough to cultivate translation talents. Interdisciplinary translation teacher team should be constructed in a number of ways.
