The use of the Internet has greatly expanded the learning, living space, and scope of university students, providing them with better studying and living conditions. However, the networks is a double-edged sword, because of a large number of irrational, even pathological use of the Internet, students learning and life are negatively affected. This also do great harm to university students learning and living, affecting physical and mental development of university students. Also, because college students have strong autonomy and independence, enabling them to use the network according to their basic psychological needs of self-determination. What kind of self-determination characteristics can be shown in the process of students'use of the network .What impact will have on network addition according to the basic psychological needs of college students and self-determination characteristics of network use.To learn more about the Chinese university students'self-determination characteristics of network use, and the impact towards network addiction out of self-determination of Internet on college students. 474 college students was chosen as the research subjects in this study. Results show:(1) The self-determination motivation of college students'use of network consists of three sub-dimensions: non-personal orientation, self-directed and controlled orientation. The questionnaire can serve as a valid measurement of college students'use characteristics of self-determination.(2) There are significant gender differences on college students'basic psychological needs, the self-determination of network use and internet addiction. As for internet addiction, there are even significant differences between grades. Senior students have significantly higher trendency of the Internet addiction than that of the other three grades in college.(3) There is a significant positive effect between basic psychological needs of college students and their self-determination of network use. With the increase of self-determination, the impact on college students'self-determination of network use decreases on account of their basic psychological needs.(4) There is a significantly positive effect on college students'network use due to their basic psychological needs and self-determination of network use.(5) College students'self-determination of network use palys an intermediary role between their basic psychological needs and the internet addiction.
