Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye written by Zhang Ruoxu a poet in the early Tang Dynasty, is ashining pearl in Chinese literature. It has been translated into several foreign languages, suchas English, French, German, etc.This thesis is based on translation aesthetics, which is rooted in China and has strikingnational characteristics. Aesthetics has an indissoluble bond with Chinese traditionaltranslation. Mao Ronggui(毛荣贵),a scholar and translation theorist, once said,"Thetheoretical foundation of Chinese translation theory is Aesthetics."Translation Aesthetics canbe defined as the combination of aesthetics and translation. It borrows the basic principles ofaesthetics to analyze, explain and solve the aesthetic problems emerging in interlingualconversion. The author of this thesis strives to analyze the aesthetics temperaments, study andappreciate the beauty based on the case study of Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye (The Moon over theRiver on a Spring Night).The special aesthetic characteristics determine that translation aesthetics is an essentialapproach to the study of the original beauty and its representation in the translation. Theauthor of the thesis wants to explore the original beauty and beauty representation in ChunJiang Hua Yue Ye from the perspective of translation aesthetics based on beauty in sound, insentence form, in sense and in ideorealm.The author did a detailed research on the source text and the target text. The researchreveals that Version1 of the target text is the best one, which succeeds in representing thebeauty of the poem Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye in its English version. Although there are severalmisunderstandings on some details, the compensative means help to represent the formalbeauty and ideorealm beauty. On the whole, the strategy of domestication adapted by CharlesBudd brings the beauty of the classical Chinese poetry to the target readers.Through the study of English versions of Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye from the perspective oftranslation aesthetics, the thesis aims to display the beauty of the source text and target textand to dig out how to represent the original beauty. It is far from enough for poetry translatorsonly to convey the sense of the original. They should also utilize their own literary accomplishments and transfer the aesthetic value of the original to let the target readers enjoyit.Classical Chinese poetry is the most brilliant achievement of Chinese literature, which isendowed with great aesthetic value: the rich and expressive words, musical sounds, its highdemand in word-choice, ordered but exquisite rhyming scheme, imaginative rhetoricaldevices and far-reaching artistic concept. More importantly, every detail in classical Chinesepoetry reflects Chinese traditional values and tastes:the balanced, harmonious, natural andfuzzy beauty. Because of the unique feature of classical poetry, the author thinks all those arevalued that must be reflected in the translation of poetry. Thus translation aesthetics needs tobe applied to translation both theoretically and practically. Only in this way will the classicalChinese poetry show its vigorous vitality, retain its nature of beauty and rejuvenate ourtraditional poetry-like culture.
