This paper is divided into three parts which are the introduction, text and conclusion. As the introduction, this part's intent is to focus on explaining the current state and limitation in the study of the new folk music movement so as to illustrate the significant and value of the paper. And the text part consists of four chapters. It will begin by studying the original problem of the new folk music movement. At present, the popular belief of the original time of the new folk music movement was in March 1958. The clearest support for this belief comes from the history of literature at the moment. However, after careful combing and statistics, the paper views that it is not strict enough because, indeed, the new folk music movement is not a top-down movement, and before this, there is a bottom-up process. And some texts and documents also show that the new folk songs, in fact, have emerged as early as in 1957. So the article regards that we should consider the process from the emergence to the completion of naming as the whole. Therefore, to strictly speaking, the original time of the new folk music movement should be from the emergence in April 1957 to the completion of naming in May 1958.Chapter two mainly talks about the problem of naming on the new folk music movement. Here, the paper focuses on Zhou Yang's view how he defined the new folk music movement in the theory and enhanced its state. After careful study of materials, the author finds that Zhou Yang's view was based on the effective integration of other names about the new folk music movement. The specific name—"new folk" and "new folk movement"—used in the history of literature was from Zhou Yang. By naming, Zhou Yang has an important impact on the direction of the development of the new folk music movement.Chapter three mainly introduces the ideal about the order of the socialist literature from Mao Zedong, Ke Qingshi and Zhou Yang in the time of the new folk music movement, which was from a literary controversy, took place in 1942. In the latter of the anti-rightist struggle, Mao Zedong tended to think that the cause of proletarian literature should be constructed by the writers from the proletariat. This thought continued till the Cultural Revolution. The last chapter takes the "Red Flag songs" as an example to study the new folk music from two aspects of content and linguistic style. This paper mainly focuses on the carols, love songs and labor poetry in the content. Contrasted with the old folk songs, the new have more several new features. So it is debatable to consider the new folk songs as "pseudo-folk song" because the most of folk songs perform a true spirit of people in the specific period. And in the linguistic style, the most significant style is that spoken language is widely used. This is a kind of return of national traditions and folk in the spirit of poetry. Partly, it should be regarded that disadvantaged groups - mainly peasants- in culture respond to the new poems and it is the reflection and backwash of the trend of new poems since the May Fourth Movement. This enlightens on us that we have to think about the thinking patterns and habits of mind of readers in the process of writing literature. Finally, the author makes a summary and draws a conclusion of the whole paper.
