Remodeling Of Values In Contemporary Social Transformation In China

Contemporary China is in a transitional period from a traditional society to a modern society, and great changes have taken place in economic, political and cultural fields. The innermost values inevitably become the key issue in the process of social development.In pace with Reform and opening up policy and the establishment of Market Economy with Chinese characteristics, multi-values is evolving and forming in China, for the intricate social environment, that is the co-existence of new and old factors, interlacing traditional and modern values, and western and eastern cultures, as well as the contest between backward and advanced values. Conflicts and changes in transitional period brought confusions, which hindered people's normal life, and affected the development of society. Therefore we must study carefully and reinvent values which are the most practical for our country, in order to promote the development of socialist modernization cause with Chinese characteristics.Based on the direction of Marxist theory and actual conditions in contemporary China, and on the basis of advanced culture both home and broad, this paper theoretically and practically reinvents the values in this transitional period. Principles of theories involved in this paper are listed as follows, under the direction of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, and Deng-xiaoping" theory" as well as three represent" thoughts, absorbing the merits of Chinese classical culture, developing advanced Chinese culture with Chinese characteristics, borrowing some reasonable western values, and assimilating, originating and developing human civilization. Principles in practice are as follows, insisting on co-existence of Monism and Pluralism, emphasizing both mental civilization and material civilization, justice, efficiency and competition, along with legal systems and ethical standards, as well as the principles of adaptation to local conditions and following in proper order and advancing gradually.The content of reinventing values is listed as follows. Establishing the direction of the new collectivism of socialism values system, that is to construct the socialism values system based on the harmonious combination of personal interest and the overall interests of the collective. Establishing the view of scientific development as the assessing standard in socialism values system, that is to insist on the direction of people-oriented and the overall, coordinated and sustainable development. Establishing socialism values system of constructing a harmonious society, which is often considered as a desirable pursuit by people of ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign. Our Party makes constructing a harmonious society as the goal of China's socialist construction, which shows that our recognize of social development has changed from Trinity to four statuses and one system, and displays that the development we are pursuing is a harmonious development which emphasizes the combination of people-to people, people-to-society and people-to-themselves.
