The US-EU relationship is still very important after cold war. The changes of their relationship are mainly embodied in politics, security, economy and foreign policies. The US wants to keep his hegemony after cold war and have EU under his control. But EU decides to be self-reliant and independent after the Soviet-Union, their common enemy disappeared. The collided on a wide range of subjects, such as NATO抯 eastward expansion and its new strategy, EU抯 independent defence and NMD issue. In economy, they are different in economic models and economic strength, with unceasing market disputes. In all, they have much more dissensions than common understanding. On foreign affairs, EU shows more initiatives than ever. The world is moving towards multipolarization, and economic globalization is developing quickly. Both the U.S.and EU have their own measures to cope with multipolarization and globalization. The disappearance of their common enemy makes the cohesion of EU decreased. In international community, EU acts more as one polar of multipolarization world than as an ally of U.S., while U.S.tries to keep on controlling EU. At any rate, it is a chance for EU to renew its old great power dream. Economic globalization arouses interdependence among different countries, and it calls for more coordination between U.S.and EU. Meanwhile, it deepens the integration of EU. EU can take advantage of this chance to catch up with U.S. After the analysis of the changes of US-EU relationship after cold war, we can predict the trend of the US-EU relationship in the future. At the same time, we can acquire more national interests by using their cognitions.
