Abstract After about 15 years' negotiation, China is now becoming the 143rd member of WTO. The entry into WTO means not only the fierce international market competition but also the profound influence on our social and economic structure. Therefore, one of our most important tasks is to study the rules of WTO and our government's commitments, analyze the challenges and opportunities, and offer the measures of adjustment accordingly. This paper firstly introduces WTO and gives the definition of Engineering Design Industry. Moreover, it analyzes the current situation of our Engineering Design Industry and points out the big gap between China and foreign countries by enumerating and contrasting abundant data and samples. This section includes the management system, design firms and their employees, organization mode, market operating, contract management, design fee, market admittance, licenses management, quality system, and law system etc. In the third section, with the analysis of WTO's rules and our government's commitments, the paper predicted the great challenges and opportunities that our Engineering Design Industry will face after its entry into WTO. The last section offers the measures of adjustment that function as an excellent reference for both the government and the researchers.
