Facing the opportunities and challenges brought by new technologies and industries,many countries in the world have reformed higher engineering education to train more innovative engineering talents to meet the development of the industry.In view of the gap between China and the world’s powerful countries in innovation capacity,and a shortage of innovative science and technology engineering talents,in 2017,China promoted the construction of "new engineering" to cultivate high-quality innovative composite engineering talents to meet the national strategic needs and support the development of social industries.Local colleges and universities in China are constantly supplying engineering talents for local industries,and the innovation capacity of engineering talents affects the innovation development of local industries.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the influencing factors of engineering students’ innovation capacity in local colleges and universities.Based on the creativity investment theory and constructivism learning theory,this study combined with relevant literature in the research field to sort out the knowledge level,thinking style,personality characteristics and motivation level as the four components of innovation capacity of engineering students in local universities.Students,teachers and tutors,curriculum and research environment are the four influencing factors of innovation capacity of engineering students in local universities.Then the paper formed the research theoretical framework.This paper selected engineering students from Dongguan university of Technology as the research object and used questionnaire survey method to obtain research data for empirical analysis.The results showed that students,curriculum setting and research environment have a positive effect on the knowledge level of innovation capacity,and curriculum setting has the greatest effect.Research environment and curriculum setting have a positive effect on the thinking style of innovation capacity,and the research environment has the greatest effect.Students,teachers and tutors,and research environment all have positive effects on the personality characteristics of innovation capacity.The motivation level of innovation ability is positively affected only by environmental factors.In addition,through the analysis,this paper expounds the shortcomings of the current engineering science innovation capacity in local colleges such as insufficient engineering professional knowledge,deficient creative thinking,inadequate will to overcome difficulties,lack of a high level of scientific research initiative and reveals the reasons: single curriculum structure,superficial interdisciplinary teaching content,absence of teacher incentive guiding,lack of scientific research platform and team building.Finally,according to the above problems and the reasons,the paper put forward the improvement of adjusting curriculum system and expanding students scope of knowledge,promoting discipline integration and inspiring students’ innovative thinking,realizing teachers’ role as facilitators and training students’ strong will,building innovative scientific research platform and promoting the construction of scientific research team,hoping to give advice to the local university to cultivate innovation capacity of engineering students.
