Theoretic Analysis Of The City Landscapes Design Based On The City Image: A Case Study Of Guangzhou

When it is taken into considerations that what is a good city, the city image is such an important issue that we won't design a comfortable urban space if it is ignored. This paper represents the author's attempt to applying the theory of city image to analyzing the urban landscape design. The paper is divided into three parts:Part 1 is an introduction of the theories about city design. The major opinions of three schools on urban landscape design are introduced in this part. Part 2 comprehensively analyzes the theory on city image and urban landscape design, therefore, the author surveys the roles of the city image theory on creating a city which will represent its own personality to human beings. Part 3 focuses on a case of Guangzhou, a large city in South China. Based on the theories above, this part analyzes the landscapes and images of Guangzhou city, especially the problems which have come into being during the rapid growth of the urban space of Guangzhou. Then, some opinions to optimize the urban landscapes of this city are raised.
