Women are an important part in both society and families, the whole state of whom influences the development and progress of the whole society. Guangdong women in early Qing dynasty were living in a special environment when commercial economic development and frequent cultural communication between east and west took place. The comprehensive effects made by history, economy, culture, et al, have enabled them to be both traditional and aggressive in economic, family and social life.This paper focuses on the role of Guangdong women in economy, family and society and presents the significant role they have played in the development of society and economy, as well as the efforts they have made in order to get rid of the limits by traditional concepts and defend their rights in the transforming period from traditional society to modern society.
