Freedom from corruption is the basic demand on a Party member and the premise for the practice of serving the people whole-heartedly. It has been highly valued by the Communist Party of China (CPC) since long ago, especially during the transformation of the economic system from planned economy to socialist marketing economy. In the course of the transformation some Party members cannot resist the temptation of money and material objects and become corruptible, which badly affects the image of the CPC. Therefore, the CPC has made it a major task to fight against corruption. The Fifteenth Representative Conference of the CPC decided that it is a political fight which will determine the fate of the CPC and the whole nation. President Jiang Zemin stressed, in his July 1 Speech, that the CPC must gain faith from the people with the good result of constructing the CPC honestly and uprightly. In this dissertation, the writer believes that the choice of strategies for the fight against corruption is the key to the victory of the fight, and the strategies must be based on a profound analysis of the corruption. The dissertation begins with the present situation of the corruption during the transformation, followed by an analysis of the causes of the corruption, and finally puts forward the strategies against the corruption. The whole dissertation consists of two parts: the introduction and the main part. The former presents the reasons for and value of choosing the topic and the present study on counter-corruption. The main part expounds three issues.Issue One - The present situation of the corruption and its harm.Issue Two - The cause of the corruption. The dissertation analyses four causes: first, the deficiency of the political system; second, the influence brought about by the adjustment of the economic structure; third, the relative backwardness of the law; last, the weaknesses of ideology.Issue Three - The strategies against the corruption. Based on the analysis of the reasons of the corruption, the dissertation comes up with three strategies: first, enchancing the education and management of the Party members with the thought of the Three Representatives; second, governing the nation by law; third, establishing a solid monitoring system. The dissertation stresses the use of various approaches to controlling and monitoring power and points out that the self-improvement of judicial institutions is directly related to the result of the fight against the corruption.
