On Foreign Direct Investment And The Economic Development In Guangdong Province

China has become one of the hot spots of international investment since 1985. In 1993, next to America, China became the second largest country into which foreign investment streamed. As a result, the shortage in capital in China's economy was eased; its foreign trade developed in leaps and bounds; and most importantly, industrialization, market economy, and internationalization featured very largely in the national economic structure of China afterwards.One vital reason for the fast economic development in Guangdong province since 1978 is that the inflow of foreign capital. In this paper, the author, basing her study on the relationship between foreign direct investment and the economic development in Guangdong province, analyzes: (1) the development, features and functioss of foreign direct investment in the province; (2) the challenges and opportunities in taking advantage of foreign investment under new circumstances; and proposes some advice in enhancing the economy with foreign investment in the province.The first part of the paper is the introduction of some basic concepts and the achievement in the field, which constitutes the theory base of the paper. The second part of it is devoted to the general description of the foreign investment in Guangdong province, including (l)the development (2)the source (3)the size and modes (4)the sectional structure (5)the geographic distribution and(6)its features. The third part is its roles and functions in Guangdong province economy. The fourth part is about the challenges and opportunities in FDI under new circumstances in Guangdong province, and the strategy and recommendation concerned.
