As a global problem, the shortage of water resource has caused high concern of governments. A lot of countries is trying to exploit new water resource and realized that both new water resource and water saving should be emphasized in order to solve the problem. Reclaimed water reuse is the center of the field of using sewage as a resource. If the technology of reclaimed water reuse is being implemented in all cities and counties, water supply can be increased by 50 percent. So it is the best way to relieve the shortage of water.Membrane biological reactor (MBR) is a hot spot of reclaimed water treatment now. Aiming at domestic sewage of building in our country, we have done the research on technology and process of MBR. Design parameters of MBR with different material of the membrane have been achieved in such aspects as pollutant removal efficiency of COD, BOD. SS, oil and LAS etc. by lab-scale and full-scale tests. According to the test data and the technological and economic comparison between a process of MBR and a conventional process for reclaimed water treatment, it is concluded that the investment and operating cost of MBR is the same as the conventional process basically. The advantages of MBR are on the land occupation, maintaining, effluent quality and automatic control. The process is specially suited to hotel, restaurant and public buildings because they usually have less useable land , bigger fluctuation of sewage rate, understaffed group of management and higher quality demand of effluent. It is no doubt that MBR is a technological suitable, economic reasonable process with competitive power in market.The average grade method with more than one objective and ordinal number evaluation method are used in this study to compare MBR and conventional process. 11 items of rationalization proposal are suggested by practical condition in our country. This reaserch on application of MBR has significance and reference value for establishment and improvement of relative policy and regulation of reclaimed water reuse.
