In the early days of the Anti-Japanese War, in view of the deeply hurt young children in the disastrous war and realizing the children are the future of the nation, lots of intellectuals appealed to establish an institution helping the children who lost their homes in the war. They claimed that the government should take the refugee children's education as the national cause. Under this background, National Association for Refugee Children was set up on the March 10th, 1938, in HanKou. It was the widest women's organization after the establishment of National United Front of Resistance Against Japan. No sooner had the association been set up than it rescued the refugee children in war area and established orphanages to nurse and educate those children. In the eight-year's work, it had set up 23 Branch Associations and more than 50 Orphanages, protecting and rearing nearly 30,000 refugee children. It had an integrated system of organization and definite educational purpose of education. The Orphanages, where the children were under 15-year old , was divided into kindergarten section and primary school section. The education in Orphanages was different from the kindergarten and primary school in peace, and from the social charitable institutions. It had fostered lots of talents at that time to support the cause of Anti-Japanese War. Nowadays, we also could draw on the experience of education in Orphanages. For example, improving children's national spirits, forming a correct attitude towards labor etc.The thesis includes four parts except preface and conclusion.Part one gave a detailed instruction about the history of National Association for Refugee Children. Firstly analyzed the historical background. Secondly sketched the process of its development. Thirdly expounded the reason of its dismiss and the dismissal work that it had done.Part tow described its system of organization, the source of income. Then analyzed its characteristics and education outline that was formulated in 1939.Part three elaborated the education in the Orphanages. Firstly introduced thechanges of Orphanages in the eight years. Secondly discussed the system of organization in the Orphanages. Thirdly set forth the educational theory in the Orphanages.Part four tried to analyze and explore the National Association for Refugee Children's historical significance. Generally it included three aspects: firstly it protected and educated the refugee children's lives in the war. Secondly strengthened the Anti-Japanese United Front. Thirdly formed wartime children's education theory.
