Research On The Development Of Peripheral City Of Metropolitan Area

Metropolitan area is a kind of circle structure of towns in which towns have close social and economic ties. It derives from the development and evolvement of city system, and people also used it as a spatial form in orginazing city system. In the development of Metropolitan area, nuclear city has the advantage of peripheral city on the rate and quality of development. On the contrary, being under shadow of nuclear city, peripheral city grows slowly, and the gap between them is widening. In addition, implementing strategy of metropolitan area may strengthen the advantage nuclear city originally has. Taking Zhenjiang City as an example, from the angle of metropolitan area and strategic level, the dissertation studies the basic view of the development of peripheral city. It will provide reference and guidance for the development and the planning of peripheral city or underdeveloped city, and also for the construction of metropolitan area.Firstly, this thesis defines the concept of metropolitan area and introduces the research pertinent to it, and introduces the research on the theory of central place, city system, the research on metropolitan area in both Japan and china. As historic background, the thesis studies the formation process of the peripheral city, and reveals the law of development of Zhenjiang City, according to the evolvement of transportation structure. As towns background, this thesis also studies the urban group in the Changjiang delta, especially Nanjing metropolitan area.Secondly, this thesis expounds on the actual characteristic and spacial structure of Nanjing metropolitan area, and compares it with Suxichang metropolitan area and Xuzhou metropolitan area. And then, the thesis studies the Nanjing's impact on Zhenjiang city by its agglomeration and dispersion, and researches the formation mechanism of peripheral city. At the same time, the thesis studies the basic social and economic characteristic of Zhenjiang city, under the background of peripheral city in metropolitan area.Finally, the thesis analyses the jam and opportunity in development of Zhenjiang city, using the theory and method in peripheral city' development for reference, the author believes that Zhenjiang city must make full use of outer condition and inner potential, and implement two grand strategy: the development strategy of exterior and development strategy of interior. To implement the strategy of integration of cities, outward economy, and culture city, is to upgrade the competition force of city and quicken the development of city. And then, the thesis puts forward some messures concerned, including changing the idea, establishing cooperative institution for cities integration, adjust city planning, perfecting the traffic system and so on.
