A Tentative Study Of Suyu's Military Thoughts During The Period Of The Democratic Revolution

Suyu was a great proletarian revolutionist and an outstanding military scientist. He was a man of great talent and bold vision and achieved brilliant achievements in war for Chinese people's liberated cause. He made an important contribution to the richness and the development of Mao Zedong's military thoughts by applying Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought to guiding, by being good at summarizing war experiences and making them become theory, by paying attention to absorbing the cream of the military thoughts in modern or ancient times, in China or else where and forming characteristics military thoughts. But the paper makes a tentative study on Suyu's military thoughts during the period of the democratic revolution for having limited space.To support this thesis, the paper is developed into four major parts:The first part generalizes why and how Suyu's military thoughts form during the period of the democratic revolution. There are many reasons to form Suyu's military thoughts during the period of the democratic revolution: the guidance of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought, the practice of long military struggles, being good at absorbing and giving creative play to the cream of the military theory in modern or ancient times, in China or else where, being diligent in thinking, being brave in exploring, being good at summarizing war experiences and making them become theory. There are two stages to form Suyu's military thoughts: the period of the second revolutionary civil war is the seeds of the formation, the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan and war of liberation is the stage of forming and ripping.The second part presents Suyu's thoughts of army building which is characteristic and systematic as follows: consciously persisting in the Communist Party exercising absolute leadership in the troops, stressing the political army building, paying attention to the development of the local forces, taking the staff officer work building seriously and makinggreat efforts to build a staff officer troop which is of high quality, making great efforts to build a modern troops which are composed of many arms, army building having priority over school building, valuing safeguard thoughts of the army logistics.The third part presents main principles of strategies and tactics which Suyu shows ingenuity during the period of the democratic revolution as follows: the policy of guerrilla war, knowing the enemy and knowing yourself, and fighting a hundred battles with no danger of defeat, adjusting the strategic plan according to changes on the enemy's side, under some circumstances, daring to fight with the strong enemy, mastering the turn of the war zone and war situation, under the case which the enemy is stronger than oneself, waging a mobile war and war of annihilation, choosing the direction of battles which must reflect strategic demands.The fourth part analysises Suyu's military thoughts characteristics during the period of the democratic revolution as follows: flexible and unusual command arts, superb command arts which is carried in the combat of the large military unit, outstanding strategic eyes, being rich in blazing new trails and opening up.
