Deng Xiaoping's ideology of national security is an important component of his integrated national strategy. Based upon the analysis of the connotation of the concept on " security " and an overview of Mao Zedong's view on national security, this thesis puts its emphasis on analyzing the historical development and scientific connotation of Deng's view on national security. Deng Xiaoping's view of the national security is the inheritance and development of Mao Zedong's. This thesis summarizes Deng's view into national interest, economic development, political security, military security and international peace. These five logical levels are in a state of correlation and gradual progression. That is, the defending of national security must base upon national interest, gain solidarity from economic growth and increase of national strength, find realization in defending political security and national stability at home and in upgrading military might, opposing strongly the interference of hegemony and upholding international peace. Finally, this thesis analyses the theoretical significance and practical guidance which Deng's view holds.
