Economic globalization, time compression and technology integration provide challenges for the living and development of modern enterprise. Economic globalization brings opportunities as well as high degree of uncertainties in technology and market competition for enterprise. The increasing customer expectation of the shrinkage of lead-time gives urgency and pressure to manufacturers that conduct manufacturing and technological innovation activities. The integration of different technologies not only makes the development of technology and process much more difficult, but also promote the communication and cooperation between competitive and complementary enterprises, and open doors for new forms of operation in enterprises. In fact, there exists a broadening gap between Chinese and foreign enterprises in technology, in which the former has a weak point in market competition. The previous mode of technology introduction-technology imitation-technology innovation cannot solve the problem of the dynamics and persistence that determine the development of enterprise. Under this condition, this thesis focuses on the building and strengthening of capability of technological innovation (CTI).The content, characteristic, structure of CTI, and the relationship between technological strategy and CTI are discerned in Chapter 2. The five characteristics of CTI, which are innovation orientation, nature of combination, flexibility, the nature of accumulation and dynamics respectively, is brought forward. A systematic structure of CTI is raised, which will provide basis for the later research work.The basis on which CTI is constructed is discussed from the perspectives of knowledge, organization and social culture, is studied in the third chapter. A two facet of ways that CTI can be built are systematically given, which are the internal mode in the building of and external mode in the building of CTI respectively. The internal mode of building of CTI is studied with both the capability of product innovation and process innovation, and a selective and evaluating model on project management of product innovation is given. With the innovative flow method, the ways and routes that help build CTI is formulated. A three-stage model on the capability of process innovation is given. Besides, an external mode of the building of CTI is put forward on the basis of merger and acquisition and learning.Consistent with the research in chapters, the strengthening of CTI is studiedfrom both the self-incentive and other-incentive perspective. It is demonstrated that the team members enjoy a limited level of self-incentive motivity and the effect of this self-incentive mode is state-contingent. A plan of profit sharing model between human capital and physical capital in innovative teams is given, and the five cardinal rules necessary to the evaluation of the value of human capital is provided too. A two-stage game model is proposed. With this model, the feasibility of the strengthening of CTI through technology cooperation is confirmed, the conditions that lead to positive incentives are given, and the ways and routes that help to strengthen the CTI is concluded. All this research results suggest a complete system in the strengthening the CTI and provide insights into further research of CTI.Chapter 5 is a demonstrative study on CTI in China. Within the research structure brought forward in the thesis, some suggestions are given to the building and strengthening CTI for Chinese enterprises.
