The Study Of The Farmers' Adoption Behavior On Quality Wheat Production

As food production was continued inadequate to domestic needs in recent years, how to use effects of policy control and market mechanism becomes kernel problem of country works in order to give attention to two targets of maintaining food security and increasing farmers income. This study takes farmers of Fengxian county, Jiangsu province as examples in the quality wheat extension project from the Ministry of Agriculture, and through Participatory Rural Appraisal and Participatory Training led farmers to adopt quality wheat varieties.For the sake of understanding the influencing factors of fanners' adoption behavior, we released questionnaires to the farmers and talk with them on a door-to-door basis. So that we could grasp the rules and characteristics of farmers' adoption behavior, promote the quality wheat production. The research is based on the statistical analyzing of the questionnaires and the result of Probit-model evaluation. At last, the article summarizes the research conclusion and presents suggestions.As showed by the statistical analyzing, grain price is the main factors that impel farmers to increase wheat-planting area. At present, governmental extension institutions serve as the main source of new wheat varieties. Percentage of self-conscious adoption is high when farmers decided to plant new wheat varieties, although recommendation from seed-sellers had some action.On the adoption of quality wheat varieties, the relatively higher education, the more income, the younger age are related to the earlier adoption. Despite the dissemination is accorded with progress fanners' strategy, the speed is slow because that technology quality is not so favorable and no. preferential price for quality wheat. By the Probit-model evaluation the main factors which determine farmer's adoption behavior in quality wheat varieties are: seed subsidy and production on order form, source of farmers' acquainted themselves with new varieties, who has been planted it once, sex of the farmer, and the cultivated area per cropland. It much helps to farmers' adoption via Participatory Training and Participatory Extension. In the interest of reducing farmers' risk on new technology adoption, it must give correlative guidance and service in time.Bring forward the research conclusion and suggestions that is based on theoretical analysis and empirical study, the author proposes that the impactful means to solve food security is to integrate policy control and market mechanism. It is important to alter up-to-down extension concept in agricultural industrialization, so that will enhance farmers' ability to absorb science and technology, channeled them towards self-decision-making on the basis of respecting their desire.
