Under the new situation that " the domestic competition internationalization, the international competition melts at home ", our country has already entered a new stage, during which we implement the strategy of " introduced " and " walked out " simultaneously. In order to become big and powerful on the foundation of 20 years' reformation and development and to utilize both international and domestic markets and resources fully, the enterprises run by the local people must hit out the international market voluntarily and implement foreign direct investment strategy while reply competition of " home gate " positively. At first, this text proves the feasibility in theory of the foreign direct investment of enterprises run by the local people according to the export of capital theory of Marxism and western foreign direct investment theory, and then describes the necessity in fact of theirs according to the change of the domestic and international economic situation and the need of one's own development of the enterprises run by the local people. And then, this text analyzes the rise and development, current situation and characteristics, questions and obstacles of the foreign direct investment of enterprises run by the local people from the development course of the foreign direct investment of Chinese enterprises, and then puts forward some ideas for their development pointedly according to their relative advantages. Finally, focusing on the constant improvement of the domestic and international environment and on the comparison of state-owned enterprises with enterprises run by the local people, this text proposes that the enterprises run by the local people may become the main force of China's foreign direct investment in future.
