With the flourish of cultural tourism and village tourism, Vernacular Villages in Southern Anhui have become important tourist destinations, and a considerable amount of tourism researches have been conducted on Vernacular Villages, focusing on exploitation and protection of tourist resources, tourist products development, tourist environmental carrying capacity and social impacts of tourism. This thesis attempts to explore some issues that deserve greater attention and further elucidation. Based on a number of on-the-spot surveys and investigations, the thesis, taking statistics approaches such as Factor analysis, One-way ANOVA, Independent-sample t Test and Regression, carries out in depth study of the push-pull theory, residents' perceptions and attitudes towards tourism in Vernacular Villages in Southern Anhui. Furthermore, this thesis analyzes problems existing in tourism development of Vernacular Villages in Southern Anhui from a macroscopic perspective. The thesis consists of five chapters.In Chapter One, the author proposes her own objects and theory basis of study based on a review of the progress of domestic tourism research on Vernacular Villages. And then, she makes an overview of progress in the related area of tourism push-pull framework and residents' perceptions both at home and abroad. In the end, she introduces the research backgrounds and research methods.In Chapter Two, the author makes study on tourism push-pull theory. Firstly, she examines visitors' underlying motivation to the Vernacular Villages, Xidi-Hongcun, in Southern Anhui and identifies five push factor domains and four pull factor domains. Additional analysis investigated differences in the push and pull factor domains for different socio-demographic subgroups. The study results hold useful implications for exploiting and protecting resources, and expanding market in Vernacular Villages in Southern Anhui. In Chapter Three, the author studies residents' perceptions and attitudes towards tourism development of Vernacular Villages, xidi-hongcun, in Southern Anhui. Firstly the author analyses the residents' perceptions to positive impacts and negative impacts of tourism development. Secondly, she studies difference created by socio-demographic variables in residents' perceptions and attitudes towards tourism. At last, he explores the relation between residents' perceptions and their support for tourism. The study results hold useful implications for changing residents' attitudes towards tourism and increasing support for tourism.In Chapter Four, the author follows the principle of sustainable tourism to analyze unfavorable factors of tourism development in Vernacular Villages in Southern Anhui, and puts forward some countermeasures.In Chapter Five, the author summarizes the main conclusions and achievement of the thesis as well as points out areas for further study.
