Title of the thesis: Study on the Affecting Factors and Ways of Extension of TechnologicalAchievements in Agriculture --An empirical analysis on the extension of inter-planting rice inwheat fields with super-high stubble remained; Author: zhang Yongtai; Supervisor: Gao Qijie; Specialty: Crop production; Field of reserch: Rural Development; College: college of Humanities and Development; Application Data: April,2004.Based on the investigation of factors influencing extension of the technique-inter-planting rice in wheat fields with super-high stubble remained, the transformation efficiency of technological achievement was analyzed. Surveys were carried out in three sample villages in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. In this study, the Probit Model was applied to conduct an empirical analysis of factors related to extension of the technique, and following results were obtained.Farmer's attitude towards the technique (accepted and adopted, or not) was largely dependent on its extension ways used. Among the extension ways involved in inter-planting rice in wheat fields with super-high stubble remained, the favorite way to the fanners was demonstration, following which was technical contract Termly consultation and training were partly welcomed by farmers while information services and agricultural insurances were not so acceptable by farmers. Proper interferences from local governments were helpful in realization of extension aims. The empirical analysis, using Probit Model, showed that the extension efficiency of the technique was obviously affected by following factors: income and cost, yield increase, farmers' age and education, non-agricultural income, farmer's social status, distance from town, frequency of farmers' contact with media and agricultural technicians. The analysis on the influence directions and degrees of the factors involved in extension of the technique indicated that pursuing optimum profit was the principal motivation for fanners to accept and adopt new techniques. As well as the contact between farmers and agricultural technicians, public media played an unsubstitutable role in helping farmers to obtain adequate valuable information. Farmers could be grouped according to their age, education status and yearly non-agricultural income, which provided the important base in choosing suitable extension ways.Governments should exert their macro-regulation function to establish more efficient extension systems for agricultural techniques, and to select proper extension ways according to local conditions. Setting up risk mechanisms for whole agriculture, enhancing technical diffusion, improving farmers' behavioral environment and guiding them properly, were also effective ways to promote the acceptance of new techniques.
