An Economic Research On The Conglomeration Of The Hospitality Industry In China

Conglomeration is an advanced form of modern enterprises that is playing an increasingly important role in economic development. Economic globalization, rapid progress of information technology, and escalating competition on the marketplace have altogether accelerated the move of hotel businesses towards conglomeration. This thesis is a research on the current situation of the hospitality industry in China. It studies the consolidation issue from the two perspectives of causation and approach. With a comparison against the growth paths of European and American hotel groups, the article identifies and analyzes problems existing in the consolidating processes that Chinese hotel enterprises are going through and also makes an attempt to propose some policy principles in regard to the future development of conglomerations in the hospitality industry in China.The thesis consists of six parts as follows: The first part is a brief introduction to the author' s intention of writing this paper. The second part clarifies the causing factors of consolidation in Chinese hospitality industry and development approaches that have generally been taken by Chinese hospitality enterprises. The third part is a comparative discussion on the historic evolution of hotel conglomerations in western countries and the present situation of the hospitality industry in China. The research indicates that forming conglomerations is a sure path for Chinese hospitality industry. The fourth part explores possible consolidation strategies for Chinese hospitality businesses. The thesis concludes with some applicable principles that could be executed in future consolidation of hospitality enterprises in China.
